January '23 BOTM Review

Our BOTM for January 2023 was – Winter Roses After Fall. Here's what we thought about it!

Our themes for the month were new beginnings, and in general, integration into new forms with lots of self-reflection!

We’re rating this BOTM based on 6 criteria, on a scale of 1-5 (1 being the worst, 5 being the best).

• Character development: ☆☆☆☆☆

  • Consistent characters were not included in this book.
    

• Pacing: ★★★☆☆

  • Readers will experience varied pacing from short poems to long journal-like musings. Readers may find themselves immersed in a series of delicate poetry only to be thrown into a paragraph of unorganized prose, potentially impacting the effectiveness of pacing.
    

• Plot: ★★★★☆

  • Though readers will not watch a conventional plot progress, the collective idea of the different pieces of poetry and prose culminate into the idea of relationships between others and with oneself. Ideas build off of each other in an interesting way and immerse the reader into the emotions on each page.
    

• Coherence: ★★☆☆☆

  • This book features a vast variety of different styles and methods of exploration which add to the authenticity, however deteriorate the coherence. Taking away the meaning of these assorted works may prove to be challenging due to their sporadic nature and unique structures.
    

• Enjoyability: ★★★☆☆

  • Central to the idea of relationships with self, partners, and people within your life, readers will be able to explore various poetic interpretations of these ideas while also uncovering a healing emotion. This book is not targeted to all audiences, however its sentimental value will be extremely appealing to some and less appealing to others.
