We start off the year with slips of our hearts in enveloping poems.

All It Took

And, it never took much

All it was

Has slipped through my drowsy fingers

The raindrops racing across windows — a backdrop of blurred skies

Merging — one — as if it were never

Two, two cycles

Seamlessly lapsing through one another, skin against skin

And, the tension ticked away into a clock

For a while, perhaps, my eyes obeyed the hands

One, two,

Three — but a yearning had overtaken me

Ah, was it really yearning? We yearn for what we do not have, no?

I disagree

You are made to be free

… Someday I will plunge so profoundly, my thoughts will swim past my cranium into Heavens meant for

All it took

Was to rip out embroidered memories, stitched by my own hand

Court my eyes — beyond the five fingers — pressing into eyelashes without wishes,

And I begged of you,

You asked me, what do you see?

Molt oneself from a reflection

Shattered, scattered, spread into a sole six

All it took

Was to float, my back against fragments — the sky above, the seven seas below — reaching for the clean slate of a sky

And all it took

Was an answer from somewhere in that lonely world

Yes, it could have easily been an accursed jewel glinting from a crow’s foot

The wind guided me to a desert

In exchange for the residue of yet another dream — the seas, they gave a will

To drown in sunlight, to dry in silver pools against golden hills

And long ago I forgot the warm whispers of the gales

To fathom

All it takes is

The hourglass, figure eight.

Laid on its side, infinite.

No longer a wish of a fool, I began anew

Free, we fly towards our newly drawn horizon.

Sunset and Sunrise on the Lake

Sunset plays a gentle melody through glassy sheets and rivets of the lake.

Clouds drift away to dreamlands as the day turns dark.

Anxious movements in the water; it’s you? I wonder, true.

Dread-colored shade of the night sky haunts your heedless wondering.

“Don’t fear the future!”: sweet sound of nightingales singing from eve to eve.

Sunset parts a quiet day. What’s coming bleeds into your chest

And I pray this day end: an era done: a time of new rejoice,

A time of new choice, a time! Does it comfort your heavy heart?

With golden eyes let’s watch: sunrise strums over a sun-kissed lake.

A new day, anew, renew! Welcome the morning, welcome this fate, welcome the sun.

High tides are rushing, this pretty lake comes alive;

Well it’s finally time. This: a new life.
